"What, there's profanity spray painted on the front? No, no that's just aesthetic decor..."

It was so bad... 🤣

This was a fun read. My favorite bit is the falls measured in "Walmart-powers-scooter-driving shoppers". But the whole arrival is the real gold: driving eight hours while the neighborhood gets worse block by block, your wife locking herself in the car, and then walking in to an old lady shrieking "No clean yet! You go back!", Awesome.

"Aside from almost certain death and dismemberment by a tweaker named J-dawg, we had a great time. "

This gave me a good laugh 😆

"If it seems too good to be true, it probably is."

So, this made me think of my brother. He came out to visit us last Christmas, but he ended up getting here before we were ready to host him. No problem: he just booked a hotel for two nights. But he booked the cheapest hotel in the city. When he got there, his phone took him to a dark alley. The only thing there was the back door to an Indian restaurant. The owner came out and told him to go before he gets robbed.

Turns out he booked into a hotel that did not exist.

Anyway, thanks for a great read. It's always nice to bump into other writers in the life story + comedy niche.

Cheers!

Good job salvaging the situation by cancelling and doing to the Ramada. Dont let this ruin your trip!

omg I can't even imagine after that drive pulling up to that house. Hysterical with your descriptions, the bedbugs- so funny! I heard the Canada side is much nicer but had no idea the extent of the difference!!! also will be so careful with Airbnb going forward. apparently AI touches up their pics!!!!! this was really well written and funny 😁 😂

Oh definitely. The Canada side has like a ferris wheel and shit. You can see it from the American side, it's crazy. You look across and it's all glowing and vibrant, then you turn around and see a poverty wasteland sprawled out for miles.

Thanks for reading!

This one had me laughing to myself 😂😂😂! Your humor works because you're always the butt of the joke. Rather than mocking the situation from a distance, you invite readers to laugh with you at your own overconfidence and poor planning. And haven't we all been there! That self-awareness keeps the story feeling playful instead of mean-spirited, even when you're describing a pretty disastrous experience. Such a fun read! Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for kind words! I definitely upped my Airbnb selection game after all this. 😅
